Entering the New Mills Poetry Trail

I’ve always had a fondness for New Mills as a lovely little countryside town in Derbyshire around 13 miles away from Manchester and have had many splendid walks all there over the years.

Less known perhaps is its thriving poetry scene which for the last three years have run hand in hand with the New Mills Festival offering an excellent personal highlight for me every year.

One item the festival has offered which I think would be a fantastic idea for a lot of cities and towns to do with local festivals is their poetry trail which runs throughout its town.

I’ve done this trail myself twice getting drenched completely on the second time in a brief rainstorm but it’s a wonderful experience wandering around the shops reading and experencing the poetry in a very different way.

This year in they offer the chance for their work to be displayed in shops and business windows around New Mills for the duration of the festival (10 to 26 September 2021) as well as be listed in the trail map disctributed across the town.

During the festival, a special reading will also happen during on Saturday 18th September in the town which all featured poets on the trail in addition and new for 2021 – 5 works will be chosen to be printed on large scale panels to be displayed in prominent sites across the town.

Entries can be submitted from 16 April 2021 More details can be found at https://www.newmillsfestival.com/poetry-trail-info
